Like any ailment causing extreme pain and discomfort, hemorrhoids can disrupt daily activity and occupation. Most people who have them find ways to seek the easiest and fastest cure possible. Before trying anything, however, it is important to understand what hemorrhoids are, their symptoms, and the varying treatment options available.
The Hemorrhoid Experience
The biggest cause of hemorrhoids is continuous or excessive strain during a bowel movement, though constipation and diarrhea can do it as well. These issues press down on veins and nerves that run through the anal canal and that produces pain, itching, and sometimes bleeding. If the pain and itching is inside the anus it is called internal hemorrhoids, while pain and itching outside the anus is external hemorrhoids.
External hemorrhoids can be particularly painful and may present more interference with your life since they are more easily pressed. If you have to push and strain too much during a bowl movement you may notice streaks of blood in your stool from the hemorrhoids. The itching that occurs around or inside the anus is often the result of inflammation in the area.
People who experience hemorrhoids on a routine basis are often those who allow their body to dehydrate, keep inconsistent bathroom habits, take excessive laxatives, or don’t get enough exercise.
